Doga delle Clavule Morellino Di Scansano 2016
The Doga delle Clavule estate consists of 475 acres in the coastal Maremma region of Tuscany. The 101 acres of vines are primarily planted to Sangiovese, locally called Morellino. Since 1997, the estate has been owned by Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, who also owns Altesino, Borgo Scopeto, and Caparzo. She and winemaker Massimo Bracalente are responsible for all aspects of the production of Doga delle Clavule wines.
The estate spreads out over a hilly region, and soils are mainly sedimentary with some examples of neo-native loose soil, deriving from marine deposits of Pliocene origin. The proximity of Mount Amiata creates perfect climatic conditions: vineyards are protected from cold north winds and mitigated by sea breezes. This also reduces to a minimum the possibility of disease to the vine.
Color: Fairly intense ruby. Bouquet: Intense and persistent, with sour cherries, blackberries, wild berry fruit, licorice and vanilla. Palate: Savory, full, persistent and harmonious. Food Pairing: Rich fish dishes, soups, pasta with meat sauce, red and white meats, moderately aged cheeses.
