Asara is situated on land that was first settled and farmed in 1691, when it was part of the Cape Colony. In 2000 the land, by then a farm known as Verdun, was purchased by the current owners. In 2001 an adjoining farm – Morgenster – was added to make the 180 hectare Asara, one of the largest wine estates in the heart of the renowned Stellenbosch wine country. The new farm was named Asara to represent Astar, Asis and Asase, African gods of earth, sun and sky – symbols of the balance and harmony of nature which is reflected in Asara’s wines.
This is a blend of shiraz, pinotage, malbec and petite verdot. These four diverse varieties create a harmonious blend with complex layers of spice, mocha and dark berry aromas. The palate is full round with luscious blackberry, dark chocolate and sweet violet flavors with a dry yet fruity finish.
