In 1773, Turgot, one of Louis XVI's future ministers, gave permission for each barrel of local wine to be branded with a red-hot branding iron with a sign marking the quality of the Pinet vineyards. Thus was born the legacy that would lead to the creation of the Picpoul de Pinet appellation. The AOC area itself was established after a detailed, parcel by parcel examination by INAO. Today, the Master Winemakers of the Ormarine Winery are perpetuating this centuries-old tradition and legendary history with considerable success. Ormarine Winery's vineyards cover roughly 4484 acres, with some 1161 acres planted with its unique white AOC grape variety, the Piquepoul.
This wine is made from a plot selection of more than 15 year-old vines. Grapes are harvested at night to keep freshness and aromas. Cold pre-fermentary maceration with fermentation at low temperature. Ageing on lees in concrete vats for several months. Filtration then preparation of the wines prior to bottling on the estate.
This wine pours uminous, pale gold yellow with mother of pearl highlights. Reveals subtle lychee and pear aromas. After aeration, mineral notes appear. The wine open fresh revealing lemon grass and citrus aromas. Buttery notes and roundness lead to a soft persistent finish. This wine expresses its full flavors with seafood, shellfish, starters, fish and Mediterranean dishes.
