We're sorry, but this product is not currently available.
Gualdo del Re is family owned and operated by Theresa and Nico Rossi. Val di Cornia itself is an up-and-coming wine region, recognized for its quality and was awarded its own DOC as recently as 1989. Suvereto is the most well-regarded sub-region of Val di Cornia. The microclimate here, coupled with the the gently sloping hills that rise from the valley of the Cornia River towards the metaliferous hills, have lent themselves to centuries of grape production.
Named after their grandfather, this blend of 60% sangiovese, 20% cabernet sauvignon and 20% merlot is Gualdo del Re’s entry Super Tuscan. The grapes are from the same plots as their top wines and chosen on the sorting table. The wine is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, aged for 12 months in barriques and matures for 3 months in bottle before release. No new oak used. Total production 2900 cases per year. The structure is balanced with both fruit and tannins. Darker more brambly fruit from the Merlot, spiciness from the Cabernet Sauvignon and acid structure with earth tones from the Sangiovese.
The wine pours ruby red with a good intensity. It is fruity and elegant with red berries notes and pleasant spicy sensations. It is lively and harmonious, with good structure and! characterized by a smooth and pleasant tannin weft. Ends with a long and persistent finish.
