The Barros family has grown Albariño grapes since the 1970s. At that time the Regulatory Council had not been formed and grape production was done informally on tiny plots of land. After the creation of the Denomination of Origin, the winery was founded under the name Maior de Mendoza, after the Lady Maior de Mendoza, to honor its commitment to the land and its own history. The estate vineyards are planted in granitic–sandy pieces of land, protected from the north wind on gentle sloping hillsides that allow drainage and in plantation frames with wide pathways to aid ventilation. All work is completely by hand: pruning, thinning, defoliation, harvests, with the greatest respect for the vine and to maintain low yields.
This pours straw yellow with slight greenish hues. Aromatically you get medium-high intensity with stone fruits like peach and other fruit like apple and pear. The wine shows balanced acidity in the mouth, with pleasant grassy notes. The wine is full-flavored and fruity, with a long and balanced finish.
